Student Success

Cal Poly’s Student Success Initiatives reflect a campuswide commitment to equity, belonging, and academic excellence. Through culturally responsive programs and coordinated institutional efforts, these initiatives uplift and support students. By fostering connection, access, and opportunity, Cal Poly advances student achievement and ensures all students have the resources and support needed to thrive.
Cal Poly Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives
For Cal Poly, becoming a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) is not just a designation, but a reflection of its commitment to student success. It means being an institution that yields, retains, and graduates Latinx/e students by cultivating holistic student support and enhancing culturally enriching experiences. By centering servingness, Cal Poly fosters belonging and success for all students, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values to thrive in a global workforce grounded in academic excellence, career readiness, and social responsibility.
Black Student Success Initiatives (BSSI)
Under the leadership of the Provost’s Office, and with partnership from Culture and Institutional Excellence (CIX) Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Maritime Academy (Solano campus) are advancing a coordinated institutional response to the California State University’s Black Student Success Initiative.
Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Initiatives
The CSU ASAP Initiative at Cal Poly is committed to advancing the academic achievement, professional development, well-being, and belonging of our AANHPI students, inclusive of those from lower-income and underserved ethnic communities. We aim to foster meaningful connections between faculty, staff, and students to honor and reflect their identities and to increase access to high-impact educational experiences.
I am First-Gen
The CIX First-Gen portal is designed specifically for first-generation students, providing insights into campus resources and the wider first-generation community at Cal Poly. College presents a wealth of possibilities, opportunities, and new questions. This page serves as a gateway for first-generation students to explore these resources, access additional information from various colleges, and connect with Cal Poly faculty, staff, and administrators who were also the first in their families to graduate.
