Indigenous Peoples' Day 2022
At Cal Poly, we acknowledge that the land on which our university sits carries the heritage and culture of the Indigenous People of San Luis Obosipo County and region, the yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini, Northern Chumash Tribe. We are uninvited guests on yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini lands, and we honor their ongoing stewardship of these territories as well as acknowledge the sovereign status of the yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini peoples.
October 10th is Indigenous Peoples' Day, a holiday designed to honor the past, present, and futures of Natives peoples throughout the US. It is a time to recognize the continued impacts of settler colonialism on Native communities and to celebrate the cultures, contributions, and resiliences of Native peoples, who continue to thrive against all odds.
The campus community is invited to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day on Monday October 10, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at the yak itʸutʸu Residential Community Amphitheater Lawn. Come hear yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini Northern Chumash Tribal Members speak about their culture, present their grandmother's songs, share their traditional walnut game and exhibit items important to their heritage.
Free Tamales for all who attend!
