OUDI Interns 23'-24'
We offer a robust internship program for undergraduate and graduate students interested in advancing DEI programs and initiatives to enhance their professional skills. Interns will work on tasks and projects aligned with their interests and often, their educational and career goals. Our interns come from diverse backgrounds and bring to their role a variety of skills, contributing to Cal Poly's efforts to foster an inclusive climate as OUDI student ambassadors. They collaborate with multiple campus stakeholders to support campus and community events and provide essential day-to-day support for the Office's operations and core services.

Vinny Torres
DEI Grad Student Intern
Vinny is pursuing a Master of Science in Higher Education Counseling/Student Affairs (HECSA). Vinny helps support the interns in their work by providing group and one-on-one support to ensure DEI goals and initiatives are successfully achieved. He also serves as the resident advisor for the Huerta Lewis Social Justice Residential Learning Community. Here, he supports the residents with programming, events, and community to foster an environment that encourages diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Outside of OUDI, Vinny is currently serving as President of the Cal Poly Drag Club.

Declan Galli

Declan is a 5th year music major, concentrating in vocal performance. In OUDI he serves as a communication, design, and marketing student assistant. He will help the office further establish the OUDI brand, developing print and digital assets.
Outside of OUDI he is helping to establish a Music department DEI task force, charged with furthering the HSI goals at Cal Poly. he also performs regularly with Cal Poly choirs, where he serve as president, in quarterly voice recitals, and is preparing for a senior recital.
Wesley Ahumada Newhart
DEI Student Intern
Wesley is a 5th year Political Science Student with a Global Politics concentration and double minoring in Spanish and City and Regional Planning. He assists OUDI on HSI work and website development. He also provides support to the staff and the office during events and in office management.
Outside of OUDI he serves the Transfer Student Advisory Council, CLA Diversity Committee, is a Latin American studies student assistant, and is President of the Political Science Club.
Cristian Ulisses Reyes
ASI, HSI & DEI Student Intern
Cristian is a 4th year Child Development major, with Minors in Ethnic Studies, Equity in Education, and Queer Studies. He serves as the ASI Liaison for OUDI, where he works on bringing OUDI updates to ASI, as well as ASI updates to OUDI. He also assists with HSI work, where OUDI has worked on initiating and strengthening Cal Poly's status as an HSI.
Outside of OUDI, he serves as the Secretary of Diversity and Inclusion on ASI's Executive Cabinet and is the chair of the College of Liberal Arts Student Diversity Committee. He is also affiliated with Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc, a Student Ambassador Fellow for Today's Students Coalition, and a FIERCE Fellow with the Education Trust-West.
Brian Luu
DEI Student Intern
Brian is a 5th year Kinesiology major with a sports science concentration and a minor in biology. His primary focus in the office is event planning but he also supports the office and other interns.
Outside of OUDI Brian has served as a Polycultural Weekend Coordinator and a Men & Masculinity Program Student Assistant.
Nailah DuBose
Black Initiatives & DEI Student Intern
Nailah is a 3rd year student double majoring in psychology and communications with a minor in exercise & sports studies. In the OUDI office she serves as the liaison for the Black Initiatives Task Force, Multicultural Programming Grant, and assisting with our partnerships with Texture, Race Matters SLO, and Fortune Schools of Education.
Outside of OUDI, she serves as President of the Black Student Union and is a member of the CLA Student Diversity Committee.
Joanna Gazcon
HSI & DEI Student Intern
Joanna is a 4th year business administration major concentration in Accounting and Minoring in Spanish. As an OUDI Intern, she was selected to co-lead the HSI Taskforce in achieving different initiatives including student outreach, event logistics, or collaborating with the other interns.
Outside of OUDI, she is president of the Latinx Cultural Association and is a mentor for the Cal Poly Scholars Program.
Ryan Carter
DEI Student Intern
Ryan is a Liberal Arts and Engineering Studies with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering and Studio Art. their primary role is to design informational materials that help convey the mission and values of OUDI, as well as create engaging social media posts to spread awareness. They also provide office support to ensure the success of the OUDI team's initiatives.
Outside of OUDI, they are a member of the Inclusive Restroom Committee.
Ethan Gutterman
BEACON & DEI Student Intern
Ethan is a 4th year History Major minoring in Ethics and Public Policy of Science and Technology. He serves as the BEACoN student intern helping Dr. Kelly Bennion ensure the program can deliver the best possible research and mentorship experiences for students and faculty. Beyond this, he helps with website development, event preparation, and general office management.
Outside of OUDI, he competes with the Cal Poly Debate team and is Co-Chair of the Young Democratic Socialists of America at Cal Poly.
Emily Petatan Gonzalez
Transfer & DEI Student Intern
Emily is a 4th-year sociology major concentrating in organizations and minoring in ethnic studies. She serves as a DEI Intern & Transfer Liaison working to enhance the transfer experience to become more transfer friendly. Her role entails working with transfer students to promote academic success after transition to Cal Poly's campus. She also supports transfer students through one-to-one peer coaching sessions.
Outside of OUDI she serves on the College of Liberal Arts Student Diversity Committee, College of Liberal Arts Student Advisory Council, and Association of Transfer Students
Dillan Watson
DEI Student Intern
Dillan is a second year architecture major. Her role at OUDI is general office support. She gets to help with each of the many projects the other interns and staff are working on.
Outside of OUDI she is apart of the BSU (Black Student Union) and MUSA (Multiracial Students' Association).
Alexis Espinoza
HSI & DEI Student Intern
Alexis is an industrial technology and packaging major with a concentration in industrial technology His role in OUDI is to serve as an HSI Task Force Initiatives intern. He organizes and attend booting events while passionately representing and supporting the Latinx community, aiming to create fun and inclusive experiences for everyone.
Outside of OUDI, he is a Metals Production Lab Technician, a member of Poly Pack, and the Industrial Technology Society.
